3.5 miles with hills, outside and windy!

I was feeling very nervous before this run.  People were running with me and I wasn't sure I could complete the run.  I had the feeling in my head that people were counting on me so there was no backing down! No matter what!

Note: I'll be celebrating with an early dinner - home cooked meal of fillet, mushrooms, 1/2 baked potato, and acorn squash.  Then a fire, a few apps and a beer with Chris and painting my toes after the kids are in bed.

First Time Running Outside

I made it outside for my first run! (well sorta technically the first time I ever ran outside since I was probably a young kid and that was playing tag or kick the can or the one semester I played rugby - I was defense probably because of my size - I'm actually smaller now then I was back then - or less wider).  I was doubting as to weather or not I was going to get any exercise in today.  One of my sons had a Dr. appointment today so yoga class was not an option.   We had a great warm day today (I think it reached 60 degrees?) So I asked myself how am I going to get some exercise?  I'm signed up for two races - one in March and one in May so I'm going to have to run outside eventually :-)

During my sons nap (husband works from home) I ran 2.75 miles in 33 minutes (I think - so that would make a 12 minute mile).  My running route was running up and down my street and back 2 1/2 times.  I didn't have a watch so I used my phone for timing.  I also didn't do the run …

Feeling Nauseous

I'm feeling quite nauseous today.  Seeing as my two boys and my husband were sick earlier this week it looks like it's my turn.  I'm caught in a state of wanting to eat because I'm hungry but feeling nauseous so I don't want to eat much and not eating much is making me feel even more nauseous.

I just had some fat free yogurt with active cultures in the hopes that the cultures will do something to combat the 'bug' in my gut.  Not sure it will work but it's worth a try.  So far so good.  I took a peak in the cupboard to see what else would appeal to my stomach.  Low and behold I found a package of Ramen Noodles!  The last time I ate Ramen I was getting over a bad case of the flu.  That seemed to be the only thing that tasted good (because of the high sodium in the flavor packet I only used a scant amount for a little bit of flavor).  Would I recommend buying them? - nope! - but in my college days that was a cheap food and sometimes you just eat what tast…

Ran 5 miles!

Just ran 5 miles for the first time ever!
Thank you Jana for running with me!

Dalai Lama

I am not a religious person per se (meaning I'm not a member of a specific denomination or church) but I am spiritual, believe in GOD and try to take in the good things I see around me and apply that to my life .  On my Facebook page this status was posted by the Dalai Lama.  I find his quotes to be inspiring and full of wisdom.

"A given situation can be viewed as either unbearable or beneficial: it depends how we look at it. We must make certain that things don’t begin to seem unbearable. If we look too closely at problems we will see nothing else and they will appear all out of proportion with reality; that is when they become intolerable. If we can stand back from them, we will be better able to judge them and they will seem less serious." ~ Dalai Lama

Now it's time to get K~s lunch made, take a shower and pack up my son M~ so I can head to the gym for a 4.5 mile run.  Another workout and hopes in continuing to drown out the seeds of doubt.

Work Out Goal

Went to the WW meeting tonight and according to their scale I lost 3.4lbs.  - I'll take it!  71 lbs lost so far with 13 to go!

At tonight's meeting we talked about what trigger foods are and how they are bad to have in the house.  My trigger foods are: chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting (or any form of cake), brownies, peanut butter cups, chocolate chip cookies, and my mom's cheesecake.  If I have any of those food items in the house I will binge on them (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack etc..).  I make compromises in having small amounts of really good dark chocolate to get my fix (if it is milk chocolate forget it - I will binge on it) and a small amount of really good cheese.

If by chance I have a cake in my house I give it away to someone or throw it out (after everyone has a piece of course:-).  Fortunately there are treat foods my husband loves that don't effect me (vanilla ice cream for example) so I can have a few things in the house for him that don'…

Proceed With Caution

I have received so many wonderful messages and support from so many people.  I feel truly blessed and thankful for all of the encouragement and the experiences people have shared with me.  I must say I have never had these words said to me before: "You inspire me" (that is until I started this journey).  It is an amazing experience thus far and I thank you for taking the time to read, comment and share your perspective.  We can all learn from each other.

Today I was talking to a mom about losing weight and how hard that can be when you are nursing a baby/child.  I thought this is a perfect opportunity to talk about losing weight and how it all relates to breastfeeding, and being a mom to an infant or very young children.

The caution I wanted to offer is if you are breastfeeding please, please, please be very cautious about making drastic changes in your diet.    Here is a link to a great article on the La Leche League International website about breastfeeding and losing wei…

-2.4 lbs :-) Happy Valentines Day!

I must say I was having serious doubts about losing any weight this week.  I feel like since I've started the new Weight Watchers Points Plus system I've been eating more than I ever have in the past year (against intuition). I never feel deprived and I am never hungry at the end of the day.

It's working!  (I have 13lbs to go!)

In celebration of Valentines Day I made some chocolate truffles (when I made them it wasn't quite 30 truffles - I think I made them a little large).

Here is the recipe I used from Ghiradelli.com:

Dark Chocolate Truffles Yield: 30 Truffles 2 cup(s) 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips (I used organic 70% Bittersweet Chocolate)1/3 cup(s) Unsweetened Cocoa1/3 cup(s) heavy whipping cream6 tablespoon(s) unsalted butter, cut into small piecesDirections
In a small saucepan, bring the cream to a simmer. Add the butter and stir until melted. Add the chocolate chips. Stir until completely melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and pour into a shallow bowl…

Staying Motivated

I am a member of PEERtrainer.com and have been now for a year.  Another member asked me this question: "tell us how you've just kept going all this time??"

There are probably a million little reasons I can think of as to why I've just kept going.  When I first made the decision to do this (lose weight) in my mind it was a decision to be a lifetime commitment.  This for me was not another crash diet or a lose 20lbs before summer to look ok in a bathing suit.

I wanted this to be a lifetime transformation.  Frankly it's allot of hard work to lose weight and this time I am not going to just throw away all the hard work like I have done so many times before.

Losing weight and getting fit is a #1 priority for me and nothing is going to get in my way.  Do I have responsibilities to my family?  Yes I do however there has to be balance.  If I don't put my health and well being first then I can't be here for my family in a healthy way both physically and mentally…

The Best Complement

Had a long night as my son M~ was throwing up most of the night.  I must say that I never thought I would consider myself talented at catching puke.  My son was in bed with us and anytime he would stir I would be ready with the towel on the bed.  My husband and I would position M~ so his face would be positioned over the towel.  Good times :-) Note: He's feeling much better now.

My goal for this mornings workout was to get a 4.5 run in before my Butts and Guts class.  After not having a ton of sleep last night I wasn't sure how my workout was going to work out.  I was hoping to get to the gym for 8am but I ended up getting there at 8:10.  Soon after arriving at the gym I jumped on the treadmill and was feeling a little bit of disappointment in myself for not getting there on time.  I made it to the 4 mile mark just before I had to jump off and run to my Butts and Guts class at 9 ( I felt good about at least reaching the 4 mile mark).

After class ended I went to the reception…
