Training Day 49 - 5.5 miles in 53 minutes and 57 seconds

The race in San Francisco is coming up fast!  I run in the 100th Bay to Breakers a week from tomorrow.

Today I participated in a race that was 5.5 miles (5.74 according to my friends gps).  The course was very scenic.

It took place near a state park along a river and it was tough!  Three miles out of the 5.5 was spent running up an incline and it was killer.  I'm used to running up a hill then down a hill or it tapering off at the top.  It's the steady inclines that kill me.

After the race there was a great BBQ afterwords for the participants.  The food they had: roasted pig, pulled pork, beef brisket, grilled chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, green salad, pasta salad, baked ziti, coleslaw, fresh fruit salad, homemade oatmeal sugar and chocolate chip cookies, cupcakes, and soda from the local bottling company.

I ate:
Salad
Beef Brisket (tasted amazing with a spicy sweet marinade/sauce)
roasted pork (amazing and tender)
chicken wing without skin  (cooked well but not …

5.5 miles and some Lice, Lice Baby

I had the unfortunate discovery yesterday of finding out I had Lice.  I went to the hairdresser to get a quick hair cut and she asked me if I have kids to which I replied yes.  She then asked if they have or ever had lice.  My response: No.  She then told me I had nits on my hair at the base of my hairline on my neck.  Yikes and Gross!  I then purchased a bottle of $26 of kid safe product and gave myself two treatments - one in the afternoon and one this morning.  I then ran a 5.5 mile race (in 53min and 27 seconds with a 9 minute and 53 second mile - had some great bbq and it was a challenging run) came home looked in the mirror and wasn't sure if I was seeing any leftover nits from the earlier treatments so I went to the drug store and purchased the industrial strength version of lice killer and a metal lice comb (the plastic ones have teeth that seem to break with my long hair) and spent two hours combing my hair after applying the product and rinsing it out.  I've never ha…

Training Day 47 - Rest

Today is day 47 of my 12K training program and it's a day of rest... ahhhh.... how nice those days off are.  I have been running 4 days a week and cross training / weight training 1 - 2 days a week and I'm looking forward to the 12K so I can take a break from this training.

Yesterday morning I ran a route with hills in my neighborhood at 7:30 am.  I ran 7.35 miles in 1 hour and 27 minutes with run walk intervals of 5/1 (accompanied by my friend and 12k race partner Gwen).  I now feel like I can run the Bay to Breakers and not just barely finish but finish strong.
I have never walked never mind run that far in my life and I certainly don't think I could ever do that on my own.  I must say today I'm feeling really good physically.  My legs this morning felt like they did a little bit of running yesterday but nothing major.  Tomorrow's schedule is a three mile run then a 1 hour yoga class. By the end of this week I will have run 21 miles??? WOW!  I can't believe I…

Quiet and Listen

Since the start of this weight loss journey (16mnths and 76lbs ago)  I've had more questions than answers but I feel like I'm getting ever closer to finding the answers to my questions about who I am, how I got to were I am and how do I continue on this path of health and wellness.  I've never felt more alive in my life.  Truly alive in my quiet moments without distractions, alcohol or brownies.   It's like this journey for me is a religious experience but without religion.  I'm finding my path, my truth, and on my way I'm learning and listening quietly.

Yesterday I ran 6 hilly miles outside early in the morning (part of my training for the 12k that I'll be running in two weeks).  It was the first time I've ever run 6 miles.  I have organized a running group that meets every Saturday, and Chrissy was one of the 4 that picked to run the 6 mile route with me.  Women in the group are at all different levels of running/walking and some chose the short run (…
